Great Job, Laurie!

I really enjoyed the course and thought all of the sessions and programs were fabulous. Your support on extra questions revolutionized my life. Seriously.

Zamzar=really fantastic. Audacity= amazing. Express Scribe= in love.

I have told many many people about this course as well as sent them a link to the blog (great platform for this course, too). There are a few new students coming your way!

Thanks!

CAQDAS Package

Directions:
http://www.bsos.umd.edu/gvpt/kcousins/399O/Documents,%20media/Lewins%20etal%202006%20QDA%20Miner.pdf
go to"Choosing a CAQDAS Software Package 5th Edition, July 2006." Then, create a post to your blog in which you have looked further into one CAQDAS and provided more information on it.

Storyspace:
I looked up storyspace. It said that it was designed especially for "creating large, complex, and challenging hypertexts."

It costs $295! That is sort of a lot. They are also charging $90 for an upgrade. I would curious to know what other people's reviews uncovered.

I picked this one because the name was most user friendly. I think this might be a better program for journalist or authors, but that is only because I haven't done any of this before. I might actually like using notecards for my thesis. The idea of learning how to USE this program is what is daunting and making the notecard option look so appealing. It is basically a VISUALIZATION tool.

I would venture to guess that the support on this isn't very good or geared toward researchers' needs. I clicked on the for research link to try to find specific information and description of Storyspace only to find a bunch of gobbletygook about translation.

YAY YAY YAY!

The most wonderful tech guy ever, Flappo Jones, has solved yet another one of my computer questions. He is amazing. And my other wonderful intelligent amazing friend Jaime, showed me how to take photos on my cell AND EMAIL THEM!! this is very very exciting learning. Anyway. Here is a photo of the magic cord. It is just a normal basic cord. Nothing fancy.

We had to seriously adjust the volume levels of the input and output functions on audacity to get rid of a huge amount of distortion and it worked. THE MAGIC CABLE WORKED!!! I save $30 by not purchasing the fancier recorder AND now I don't have to upgrade (which really saved me like another $100).
YAY YAY YAY!

Sony ICD B500 Recorder of Poop

Here is what I found on Sony's site:

"Will the IC Recorder work connected to a Hi-Speed USB port on a computer?
Solution "Yes, the IC Recorder is compatible with Hi-Speed USB."

NOTE: The transfer speed and time will vary depending on the specifications of the computer.

I also went to http://www.fixya.com/ and found this:
"I need to transfer the recording from the recorder to my pc. How can you do that without the USB connection?"

"Use a cable running from the headphone jack on the recorder into your PC microphone jack. Then you can capture the audio using Windows MovieMaker software that comes with Windows XP. I have done this and it worked perfectly."

I asked them to elaborate on this mysterious cable. We will see if they get back to me, or if I even actually submitted my question to the site. It was a little confusing.

***okay I just checked the page again and Oooh, look here is the page with my posting...

All in all, my quest for help resulted in very little. :(

Laurie, do you have any ideas?

WOW! this program looks amazing.

Audio and Video Courtesy of BlipTV

Hi! I just uploaded an audio file via audacity-very nice, and then bliptv. The audio quality on audacity is impressive. I actually didn't sound quite as horrible as on my other attempt at voice over on movie maker. That audio was TERRIBLE. you can read more about it below. It was also so easy to download and install. I was really hoping to do video with my new laptop, but it has not arrived from costco and dell yet. I love costco.

Without bliptv, I could not figure out how to upload anything to blogger. bliptv actually sends it to your registered blogs for you. THis is one of those fanastic things I learned from my art of podcasting class.

I also can upload a moviemaker video I edited as well as a slide show I recorded TERRIBLE audio for. It is so painful to listen to, I dare not upload it without invitation. I had to record it in a cubicle environment with a terrible microphone, and I am just generally not good at audio anyway, so as you can see it was a perfect storm for suckiness.
